This research is under the guidance of Mr. Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor, and Mrs. Anis Komariah, M.Pd as the second advisor.
Reading is one of the language skills which is very important to be learned by students. By reading, students will get information and knowledge that they need. In teaching reading, teacher mush have teaching strategies. Teaching strategies are procedures that a teacher does to help students achieve a learning goal. The teacher must using an effective teaching reading strategy that can help students to improve their reading. This research aimed to investigate the teacher’s strategies in teaching reading for ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda in academic year 2022/2023 and the implementation of the strategies.
The research design of this research is qualitative research. The subject of this research the English teacher at SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda. The data were obtained from interview, observation, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using an interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana condensation. The data were validated using source and technical triangulation.
Based on the data result, the researcher found that teacher’s strategies  in teaching reading for ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Samarinda were scaffolding which is for provide stimulus and help to the students difficulties, think aloud to invited the students to share their thoughts, and question and answer (QAR) strategy which by asked some question to the students to ensure that they understand the text they read. The teacher implemented the strategies help the students improve their reading.</note>
