<note>Nunik Novita, 2022. Measuring of English Translation Mastery for English Education Students at UINSI Samarinda. English Education Department Thesis, Teacher Training And Tarbiyah Faculty, State Islamic University of Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. Supervisor by Ms. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as Advisor I, and Ms. Widya Noviana Noor as Advisor II.
English is taught starting from elementary school, even in kindergarten. However, in reality, students' skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking English are in the lowest category. The researcher herself found that English education students have a dependency on machine translation or usually using Google Translate. For students who are aware of weaknesses in translation and have not mastered English well, they will try to analyze the translation results using machine translator, then they will use the results of this analysis to improve them. From here the quality of their translation will different. This diversity certainly affects the quality of translation skills. The research objective was to find out how well students mastered English translation in the fifth semester of the English education study program at UINSI Samarinda for the 2022/2023 academic year.
This research uses quantitative descriptive research. These sources and data were taken from TBI 1 and TBI 2 classes in the fifth semester at UINSI Samarinda. The sample in this research were 50 respondents from 90 populations. Data analysis was carried out through validity test, reliability test, normality test. Researchers used a questionnaire as the main instrument and documents as a research instrument. The data was collected using the G-Form application and document archives.
The measured the average significance value of the fifth semester students' English translation mastery was 75.2%. Decision-making provisions can be seen based on the magnitude of the significant value, so it can be concluded that the students' stated skills in translating English-Indonesian or vice versa, both orally and written in very good category.</note>
