This research is under the guidance of Mr. Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor, and Mrs. Dina Destari, S.S., M.Pd as the second advisor. Politeness strategy is important for human being because it can make harmonious interaction. It is one of the basic requirements in communication with others. This research is a pragmatic study on politeness strategies employed by the main characters in Cruella movie. The objectives of this research are (1) to identify the types of politeness strategies employed by the main characters in Cruella movie and (2) to describe the way politeness strategies are realized in the utterances employed by the main characters in Cruella movie. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The key instrument of the research was the researcher herself. The data were in the form of utterances which contain politeness strategies. The data source was Nanny McPhee movie script. The data were collected by note-taking technique then they were classified and analyzed. The trustworthiness was attained by using credibility through two kinds of triangulation: by data, theoretical, and methodological. Based on the result, Positive politeness strategy has the highest frequency among other strategies followed by Negative politeness strategy, Bald-on record strategy, and Off-record strategy. Since the speaker claims common ground with the hearer by indicating that both of them belong to the same set of the persons, who share specific wants including goals and values.It explains thah Cruella as the main character in the movie has preferences in the need of sharing common ground. The Cruella movie shows how the strategy of politeness is used in certain context where very close to the real situation.
