This research is under the guidance of   Mrs. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the first advisor, and Mrs. Nadia, M.Pd.,M.TESOL as the second advisor.
Speaking as one of the four skills in English is seen as the most important skill for English learners to master. In the teaching process, teachers must have strategies to support the learning process and overcome a problem. This study aims to  determine the  strategies  used  by  English  teacher  for overcoming  speaking problems at the seventh-grade students of SMPN 16 Samarinda in the academic year of 2022/2023.
The data analysis of this research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was a teacher seventh-grade of SMPN 16 Samarinda. The data were collected using observation sheets and interview guidelines. Based on the result, the researcher found that teacher used six strategies for overcoming speaking problems, namely memorize vocabulary, expository, brainstorming, picture describing, making a careful choice of topic and task, and giving some instruction or training in discussion skills. Based on observation and interview, these strategies were effective for overcoming speaking problems, the result of this research also be used as guidelines by the teacher in designing learning strategies that are more creative.</note>
