This research is under guidance of Mrs. Dina Destari, S, S.M.Pd as a first advisor and Mrs. Dini Irawati, M.Pd as a second advisor.
Curriculum is one of the most important instruments for the success of education. The independent curriculum is considered suitable for the current digital era, because in this era there is very advanced technology and this makes current technology have a strong role in all activities and one of them is activities in the world of education. The objective of this research is, to find out the impact of the application  of  the  independent  curriculum  in  learning  English  at  SMPN  36 Samarinda.
This research design is qualitative descriptive. The subject of this research are the Headmaster, the head of Curriculum, and one English teacher at SMPN 36 Samarinda. The instruments in this research are interview guidelines, observation sheets, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity used triangulation.
The research findings showed the teacher's use of the independent curriculum by the English teacher in seventh grade SMPN 36 Samarinda has a positive effect on both students and the school. Students have more freedom to express their opinions, have more courage to come up with creative ideas, and have more confidence to speak in front of the class.</note>
