This research was adviced by Mrs. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd. as the first advisor and Mrs. Widya Noviana Noor, M.Pd as the second advisor.
Motivation plays an important role in shaping a person's reading background. Motivation  is  a  factor  that  encourages  someone  to  carry  out  reading  activities. because reading is one of the skills in English that must be mastered as a preparation for the future. But in reality there are many students at the eighth grade MTs. Al- Mujahidin 2 Samarinda still got bad scores in reading comprehension even though they understand the importance of reading comprehension. This is based on the results of researchers' observations and the results of in-depth questions and answers with English teachers at the school. Teachers report that students lack motivation to read in class, resulting in boredom and passive behavior. This lack of vocabulary and motivation can result in poor understanding of the text, thereby affecting students' achievement and  broad  knowledge.  So  the  aim  of this  research  is  to  determine whether there is a significant correlation between students' motivation in reading and their achievement in reading comprehension.
The research method used is quantitative method with a correlational research design. The populations in this research were eighth grade students at MTs. Al- Mujahidin 2 Samarinda, and the sample were all eighth grade students consisting of two classes, namely classes VIII-A and VIII-B with a total of 45 students. The instruments of this research  are questionnaire and test. Questionnaire is used to measure students' motivation in reading and test is used to measure students' reading comprehension achievements. The data analysis techniques used in this research are normality test, linearity test, and hypothesis test.
The results obtained from this research indicate that there is a significant correlation between students' motivation in reading and their reading comprehension. This is proven based on Product Moment Correlation analysis using SPSS version 26, the Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.002 < 0.05. So it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means there is a significant correlation between students' reading motivation and students' reading comprehension achievement at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Mujahidin 2 Samarinda.</note>
