This thesis was supervised by Mr. Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd. as the First Advisor, and Mrs. Dra. Sitti Hadijah, M. Pd as the second Advisor. Writing is one of the skills that students must master; by writing, students can exchange thoughts, ideas and opinions in writing form. However, some students experience difficulties when writing English decriptive texts due to a lack of understanding of vocabulary, sentence structure, and mechanical aspects. This is one of the reason why students have difficulty writing descriptive text. Based on this phenomenon, the researcher decided to find out the difficulties and cause of students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text at the seventh grade of MTs DDI Tani Aman Samarinda. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. In addition, the instrumens used in this research were observation sheet, interview guide, and documentation. The data were obtained based an observation, students interview, and document of students’ work in English learning process. There were seven students of the seventh grade MTs DDI Tani Aman Samarinda that was used as research subject. In the research findings, the researcher found: (1) the difficulties in writing descriptive text at seventh grade were divided into three; namely linguistic problem, psychological problem and cognitive problem. Linguistic related to language aspect, those terms were include a lack of vocabulary, and poor in grammar. Psychological related to the individual self, those terms were include fear of mistakes, shyness, anxiety, and lack of confidence. Cognitive related to understand about written aspect, those terms were include content, organization, and mechanics. Meanwhile, (2) the causes of students' difficulties in writing descriptive text at seventh grade were caused by the lack of nature of writing, inadequate writing time, lack of writing motivation, lack of teacher feedback, and lack of practicing English writing. Based on the results of the research, it could be concluded that writing descriptive text could be classified as one of the difficulties that faced by students in learning English.</note>
