This thesis was conducted based on the observation in a school of Samarinda, that is Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda at the tenth grade, it seemed that the students were rarely taught to write in English. They just did the assignment and discussed the answers together. When the students were asked to write, they were reluctant to write even a very simple text, and the products of their writings were far from the expectation. Actually students were expected to be able to write a good text with good content and coherence, but in fact, they could not do it well. Students did not have any ideas to write. In other words, they had blank minds when they were asked to write a text, for example a narrative text. This point of upen researcher interest to conduct mastered related of picture by picture strategy in increasing students' writing narrative text.
The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of picture by picture strategy in increasing students’ writing narrative text at the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda. The researcher used quasi experimental design. Subjects examined were 40 repondents from tenth grade students. The research instrument used by the researcher is (1) pre-test, (2) treatment and (3) post-test. In this research, the researcher used picture by picture strategy as a learning method of teaching writing to find out whether the strategy can increase writing narrative text at the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda.
Based on the  result, the mean score of post-test in experimental class was 68.5 and the mean score of post-test in control group was 59. it mean that there was  a  significant  score  of  experimental  class  and  control  group  in  post-test, control class was increased in post-test session than in pre-test.  But, for this session, the experimental class got the higher score than control group. Based on the calculation of t-test, it is known that the result of tvalue is 2 and ttable is 1.68. it means that tvalue is higher than ttable (tvalue > ttable), Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that picture by picture strategy was effective to increasing students’ writing narrative text at the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda.</note>
