<note>Romi Hartono Wijaya. 2022. The Use of YouTube Videos to Improve Students’ English  of  Eighth  Grade  at  SMP  Negeri  16  Samarinda  in  Academic  Year 2021/2022. Thesis, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Tarbiyah Faculty, State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. This research is under the guidance of Dr. Bahrani, M. Pd., as the first advisor and Dini Irawati, M. Pd., as the second advisor.
The research background is students have low achievement in English and difficult to understand English material. Based on the preliminary study in teaching and learning process at SMP Negeri 16 Samarinda, especially eighth grade, got the result of students score test, only few students could pass the passing grade is 75. Based on the preliminary research, there 25 students got score under KKM and the mean score of preliminary was 38.38, it because they got problem related with understanding information in English material. The research objective is to improve students English through YouTube Videos at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 16 Samarinda in academic year 2021/2022.
This study was conducted at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Samarinda. The number of the students was 31 students. The design of this research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is adapted from Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. This research was conducted in 2 cycles that used procedures of this classroom action research were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The criteria of success of this research is students’ get score 75. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation checklist, field note, and test.
From this research got that YouTube was increasing significantly students’ achievement. In cycle 1 the students’ average score was 74.90. It meant that there were 11 students or 35.48% who passed criteria for minimum completion (75) and 20 students or 64.52% students still can reach the criteria for minimum completion. In cycle 2 the students’ average score was 82.90. Dealing with the result of observation checklist for students, it showed that most of the students were actively in teaching and learning process.</note>
